It hurts yes...
For those that don’t know it yet, I’m the CEO and a developer at Orangepixel.net. A mobile games company, we do pretty good and have been doing good for four years now, but right now the mobile games market is slightly in a bad place. Nothing to do with the financial crisis, more to do with bad operator policies, most distributors bailing out, and generally a mobile crisis where only a few big ones will remain standing.
All that is fine, because we do a lot of project work, so that’s a good way to sit out the storm.. however we also like to release our own games now and then, and that’s where the hurting part comes in.
A couple of weeks ago we released Timecops, I personally think it’s one of the best mobile games we have done, so that’s saying something. As usual we send out press-releases, upload the game to our main selling partner, and setup a AdWrapped free version.
The painfull thing is that right now it is easier to download an illegal version of our game, then it is to buy one. The AdWrapped versions is still not released for some unknown reasons (that might have to do with the financial crisis), and the sales version is only now making it’s way to our distribution partners.
It’s extremely painfull to see all your hard work and idea’s available to free-loaders and “software-pirates” who prefer to play games for free and not understand that small companies who try to bring innovation are slowly dieing because there is not enough revenue coming in…
It’s only about 5 euro to buy the game… I seriously don’t have any respect for those people..
